What is Farm School?
Primrose Farm School is a drop-off program that immerses children in the God-given rhythms of farm life while nurturing their hearts, minds, and hands in truth, beauty, and goodness. Running for 28 weeks, it serves as either a standalone enriching experience or a complement to your homeschool—providing a weekly gathering that supports, rather than replaces your family's home education.
Each session weaves together purposeful farm chores (caring for animals, tending gardens, and stewardship as an act of gratitude for God's creation), living books that bring stories to life, and creative handwork (such as woodworking, crafting, and making useful items that reflect God's design and provision).
Primrose Farm School is a blend of Charlotte Mason, Waldorf, and Classical Education. We incorporate the rich literature, nature study, and habit-forming principles of Classical Charlotte Mason. The holistic development of head, heart, and hands from Waldorf traditions. And the authentic, grounding joys of farm life—where children learn responsibility and dependence on the Lord through daily work.
In this nurturing environment, children grow in character, practical skills, and a deep love for God's creation and community.
What kind of Farm Chores will they be doing?
At Farm School, your children get to live out God's call to care for creation (Genesis 2:15) through weekly chores on the farm. These real responsibilities build character, teamwork, and deep connection to His creation. Here's what a typical week looks like:
-
Feeding the animals — Scoop and share feed with our friendly goats, sheep, and chickens.
-
Gathering eggs — Collect fresh, warm eggs from the hens like a little treasure hunt.
-
Cleaning the chicken coop — Scoop out old bedding, add fresh wood shavings, and make cozy spaces for the chickens (and sometimes the other animals too).
-
Tending the Garden – planting, weeding and picking fresh veggies and herbs.
-
Maybe we’ll even be milking our own cow one day!
What is ROAM?
Read-aloud, Outdoors, Art, Memorization.
-
Read-aloud: Children will listen to a section of a chapter book every week for about 15-20 minutes. We’ll read aloud 2-5 books over the course of the school year.
During Read-Aloud children will be doing quiet art projects such as coloring and paint-by-number. Children will also be eating their snacks from home.
Living books will relate to nature and loosely relate to what we are learning about in Farm School, and be chosen by the class. Examples for the 26/27 school year are Trumpet of the Swans, Mr. Poppers Penguins, Mary Poppins, Swallows and Amazons, The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, and The Story of The Treasure Seekers. -
Outdoors: Nature walks through the forest with the group. 15-20 minutes.
-
Art: We will study four pieces of art from one artist and listen to 4 pieces of music from one composer every month. 15-20 minutes.
-
Memorization – We will study one poet and memorize one poem per month. 10-15 minutes.
What will the children make in Handwork?
In Waldorf education, handwork (sometimes called handicrafts) is a core subject from early childhood through high school. It emphasizes holistic development—balancing head (thinking), heart (feeling), and hands (willing)—by engaging students in purposeful, artistic, and practical crafting. These activities foster fine/gross motor skills, patience, perseverance, problem-solving, and self-confidence.
At Primrose Farm School Handwork provides a hands-on opportunity for students to connect head, heart, and hands through handicrafts. Children will learn safe tool use and basic techniques while building projects such as a birdhouse, herb planter, and other simple woodworking pieces that tie into farm themes and daily life. Through these creations, students build far more than objects! I hope Handwork will build a lifelong appreciation for crafting, nature, and the sense of pride that comes along with creating something with your own hands.
Will there be Homework?
No formal homework will come home with your child from Primrose Farm School. Families may want to add living books (that complement our Farm School lessons) at home. Our hope is that the practical skills, curiosity, and love for nature they discover here will naturally spill over into your everyday family life in wonderful ways!
What age range is the Farm School designed for?
We're excited to build this farm school experience around the families who join us! We hope to gather around 12 kids. Depending on registration it’s possible we could have two age groups - upper elementary (10-12) and lower elementary (6-9 y/o). We'll customize the activities, lessons, and pace based on the families who sign up. We can adjust the curriculum, hands-on activities, and group dynamics to match the kids who register. It’s even possible we have a middle elementary group of 8-10 year olds!
What are the class sizes?
We’re keeping our farm school groups small for the first year to ensure hands-on fun, safety, and plenty of individual attention. Our target is about 12 children per class or session, though we may cap enrollment at 12 or adjust to 8–12 kids if we need to divide by age or activity for the best experience. We’ll tailor the lessons, pacing, and groupings based on who signs up. Spots are limited, please register early to join our farm crew!
Enrolment depends on sufficient interest in each age group. If your child is registered but their age group does not meet the minimum enrollment needed to run, your registration fee will be fully refunded.
